Three Ways To Avoid Infecting Your Computer With A Virus From The Internet

Viruses are nasty little things that most of us can't really avoid. Despite having your own anti-virus software installed in your workstation or your personal computer at home, it might not do you much good if you are reckless with your computer and you do not update your antivirus program. You need to practice some discipline as well so that you wouldn't end up infecting your own computer with some kind of virus that may or may not be catastrophic for your computer.

In order for you to avoid something like this a lot better, you need to try to be better educated when it comes to the internet and the threats and hazards that it might pose to your computer. Here are a couple of things that you can do for you to avoid viruses and the like.

1. Do not visit sites that are suspicious.

If you smell something fishy, you'd better not open links or pages that you think could be a digital booby trap for your computer. This means links sent to you through instant messages or some pop-ups could very well lead to your computer's doom.

If you are not familiar with the site, don't bother visiting it if you don't know anybody that could tell you that it's safe. However, if you really are curious about it, try googling that site to check if it' is a dangerous one to begin with that might contain malicious software. If there are warnings or notes that might indicate that these sites are dangerous, don't bother visiting it at all.

2. Do not open any email messages when you don't know who the sender is.

This is probably one of the most common forms of viruses spreading onto different computers and infecting them in the process. Viruses somehow find their way to your mailbox patiently waiting there for the time to strike your computer. Once you open that infected message, you might find yourself in a tight spot that might result to your computer bugging down or being totally unusable at all.

Aside from infecting your own computer, that virus itself might get a hold of your mailing list to embed itself onto different emails to be sent to every single address in your account. It's like a domino effect that could prove to be quite disadvantageous to you. Just delete it if you don't know the sender or if it is a fishy message to begin with.

3. Don't carelessly install or download applications from the internet.

If you're downloading applications from the internet that aren't trusted by your system or could be a little suspicious, think twice before you install it. This is most common among download sites that allow its users to download songs and movies through their sites.

If you find a movie with a file size that's just less than a megabyte, you're not literally going to download that right? That's practically a virus that's waiting to infect your computer.
